Touring New Zealand's North Island by Campervan
Waipiro Beach was reached by a narrow side road a few miles long, and made a superb lunch stop. The prompt to taking this detour was a single comment in our
Lonely Planet guidebook: "...nearby Waipiro Bay is an absolute stunner" - and indeed it is. A rough track along the beach that appeared to go to a sheep station was
very tempting, but time was short as always so we continued on after Murray had a dip in the heavy surf.
The steep road we took back to the highway, through Te Puia Springs, offered spectacular views of Waipiro Bay.
